Η Σμαράγδα- Μαρία Σκούρτα ζει και μεγάλωσε στην Αθήνα.
Σπούδασε Καλές Τέχνες στην Ανωτάτη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών της Αθήνας για 16 χρόνια, Ζωγραφική, με δάσκαλους , τους Καθηγητές Γ.Μόραλη ,Ν.Κεσσανλή, Χαρακτική με δάσκαλο τον καθηγητή Θ.Εξαρχόπουλο και Γλυπτική με δάσκαλους τους Καθηγητές Δ.Καλαμάρα και Γ. Λάππα.
Ειδικεύθηκε στην Γλυπτική σε μάρμαρο στην Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών της Τήνου.
Παρακολούθησε μετεκπαιδευτικό πρόγραμμα στην Ecole des beaux Arts (Paris) με δασκάλους τους Καθηγητές Jeanclos και Garrant.
Σπούδασε, Βυζαντινή Εικόνα και την Τεχνική του Φρέσκου, στο εργαστήριο της αγιογραφίας της Ανωτάτης Σχολής Καλών Τεχνών της Αθήνας, με τον Καθηγητή Κ. Ξυνόπουλο και την τέχνη του Ψηφιδωτού με τον Καθηγητή Τρ. Πατρασκίδη .Διδάχθηκε την Τεχνική της Διαφάνειας της Ρώσικης εικόνας με δάσκαλο τον Καθηγητή père G. Dropot στο Παρίσι και βυζαντινή εικόνα στο Μοναστήρι «Ευαγγελισμός» στην Πάτμο με την μοναχή Ολυμπιάδα διδαχθείσα από τον Φ.Κόντογλου.
. Στο Βερολίνο συμμετείχε στα εργαστήρια συντήρησης χάρτου της Staad Bibliotheke .
Eλαβε μαθήματα tapisserie από την ιρλανδέζα καθηγήτρια Τheresa Mc Kenna και σεμινάρια εφαρμοσμένων τεχνών από τον Καθηγητή Derek Sellars (Sheffield ).
Εκπονεί, διδακτορική διατριβή στην Αρχιτεκτονική Σχολή του Εθνικού Μετσόβιου Πολυτεχνείου.
Η εργασία της είναι το αποτέλεσμα συνδυασμού πολλών και διαφορετικών τεχνικών και υλικών
Έλαβε μέρος σε πολλές ομαδικές και ατομικές εκθέσεις στην Ελλάδα και το Εξωτερικό.
Η παρούσα εργασία είναι το μέρος ενός ευρύτερου σχεδίου που έχει προετοιμασθεί για να εκτεθεί στο Βυζαντινό Μουσείο της Αθήνας

BIOGRAPHY
Smaragda-Maria Skourta grew up and lives currently in Athens.
She studied at the School of Fine Arts of Athens, for 16 years, the subjects of Painting with Pr G.Moralis, Pr. N.Kessanlis, Engraving, with Pr. Th.Exarchopoulos, and Sculpture with Pr.D.Kalamaras and Pr. G. Lappas.
She specialized in marble sculpture at the School of Fine Arts of Tinos.
She attended a postgraduate program at the “Ecole des beaux Arts” (Paris, France) under the supervision of Pr. G.Jeanclos and Pr. A.Garant.
She studied Byzantine Icon and the Technique of Fresco, in the Athens School of Fine Arts, with Pr.K. Xynopoulos and the Art of mosaic with Professor Tr. Patraskidis.
She studied also the Technique of Transparency in Russian Icons with Pr. Père G. Dropot (Paris, France) and the Technique of Byzantine Icons at the "Annunciation- Evaggelismos " Monastery in Patmos (Greece) with the Nun Olympiada who was apprenticed to F.Kontoglou
At “Staad Bibliotheke” (Berlin) she participated in paper restauration workshops.
Later on, she took Tapisserie lessons from the Irish teacher Theresa Mc Kenna and Applied Art Seminars by Pr. Derek Sellar, (Sheffield).
She prepares a PhD in the School ofArchitecture at the National Technical University of Athens.
She has participated in many personal and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad.
Her artistic work is the result of a combination of several techniques and materials.
The present work is a cross-section of a wider project prepared to be exhibited in the Byzantine museum of Athens.
